SeatPopBot
If you run a city or library website and saw SeatPopBot in your logs, this page explains who we are and what it does.
Who we are
SeatPop is a small independent app that tells Canadian families when their city's recreation registration opens, and lists free library events. We are not affiliated with any city, library or registration vendor.
What it reads
- Public pages where cities announce registration dates (for example "registration dates" or "how to register" pages).
- Public library event calendars, to list upcoming free events.
It does not log in, fill in forms, register for anything, or collect any personal information. It never reads pages that are behind a login or that robots.txt asks crawlers to skip.
How it behaves
- Identifies itself with this user agent:
SeatPopBot/0.3 (+https://seatpop.app/bot; free family activity discovery) - Checks
robots.txtfirst and honoursDisallowandCrawl-delayrules, including forUser-agent: SeatPopBot. - Waits at least 3 seconds between requests to the same host, longer if your robots.txt asks for it.
- Runs about once a day. Pages that haven't changed are skipped.
- Some pages need JavaScript to show their content, so a few requests come from a headless browser that uses the same user agent.
What we do with it
We keep the dates and event details a page publishes, and always link back to your page as the source. Nothing is republished as if it came from us, and if we can't verify a date against the page text we don't show it.
Contact, or ask us to stop
If the bot is causing trouble, or you would like your site excluded or crawled differently, email [email protected] with the host name. We will act on it promptly. You can also block it directly:
